I'm Janet M. Stovall, CDE, a diversity pragmatist who believes the workplace is THE place to make inclusion a reality. Why? Because inclusion is the only way to unlock the proven value of diversity to improve business outcomes.
My inclusion work started in the C-suite, helping senior leaders craft and communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion values and visions that others—even the resistant—can believe in, support, and advance. As a result, my inclusion frameworks are reverse-engineered from what leaders champion.
I operate according to three core beliefs:
- Diversity isn’t a problem to solve. It solves problems.
- Inclusion isn’t feeling valued. It’s being able to contribute value.
- Equity isn’t fair people. It’s fair systems.
These pragmatic beliefs are the foundation for practical solutions that have helped practitioners and executives at global organizations move inclusion beyond a nice idea to a business advantage. The workshops I design and deliver, the books I write, and the counsel I provide helps organizations shape and sustain Inclusilience: individual practice supported by institutional policy to create resilient inclusion.
